Emmanuel's Library

“The books that help you the most are those which make you think the most.”  - Pablo Neruda

Emmanuel has a renovated library that is open to the entire community. Its focus is mainly faith-based fiction and non-fiction books, but also included are many other titles of social-science and historical interest. In addition, we have many DVDs and CDs to check out, of various genres and titles.

– Highlighted here is the book of the month
This month's title is:
Grace, by Richard Paul Evans (2008)

I was introduced to Richard Paul Evans books several years ago when someone suggested I read The Christmas List.  I liked his writing style so much that I was eager to read more of his titles. To date I have read over a dozen. I just finished reading Grace. I still struggle with the meaning of grace defined as “the love and mercy given to us by God because God desires us to have it, not necessarily because of anything we have done to earn it."
Sounds almost too easy.

However, Grace is the story of a young runaway girl named Grace and the boy who hides her from a frightening world too large and unfathomable for him to comprehend. It is also about two brothers and the love that binds them together through difficult times. It is a quick read and at the end there is a reference to "God's grace," that helps you understand why Richard Paul Evans chose the name Grace for this character. If you read the book, make sure you read his Epilogue and open letter at the end. The story is fiction, but there are thousands of stories like Grace's happening in real life.

This book will be available in the library on September 23.
